San Diego Union-Tribune, The (CA) - February 4, 2001 Deceased Name: ZIEN ZIEN, JAMES DAVID James David Zien, born May 10, 1921 in Duluth Minnesota, passed away Thursday, February 01, 2001 at his residence in La Jolla, California. He is survived by his wife Lois, daughter Sarah Zien, son Peter Zien, sister Shane (and Felix) Wolf. Mr. Zien was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue, and a board member of the San Diego Opera. Funeral services were held Friday, February 2, 2001. Arrangements by Am Israel Mortuary. In Memoriam San Diego Union-Tribune, The (CA) San Diego Union-Tribune, The (CA) - February 10, 2001 Deceased Name: ZIEN ZIEN, JAMES DAVID James of La Jolla, Calif. died at home February 1, 2001 after a long illness. He was born May 10, 1912 in Duluth, Minn. and lived in St. Paul until moving to La Jolla in 1969. Jim enlisted in the Army prior to Pearl Harbor and he served for 5 years in the Pacific War zone receiving a Battlefield Citation as a Lieutenant He was the former owner Harry's and the Criterion Restaurants in St. Paul and Minneapolis and built the original McDonalds in the Twin Cities eventually becoming a Vice President of the McDonald's Corporation until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Beth Israel Temple San Diego and a former board member of the San Diego Opera. He was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife Lois, daughter Sarah Zien and son Peter Zien.
